Base Salary
$249k - $278k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship backend systems for Strava’s athlete-facing features from concept through production.
- Act as technical lead for engineering pods by scoping work, breaking it down, coordinating delivery, and guiding technical decisions.
- Partner with product managers and designers to shape and deliver new features.
- Solve complex technical problems and work across client or adjacent systems when required.
- Maintain reliability, performance, and maintainability while moving quickly on new product initiatives.
- Mentor engineers on the pod and across Strava’s technology organization.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional backend or server engineering experience with a record of shipping consumer products.
- Experience acting as a technical lead, facilitating team processes, and driving execution.
- Strong system design skills for distributed systems at scale, including architecture decisions and trade-off analysis.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language used by Strava, including Scala, Go, or Python, with the ability to learn others.
- Experience with distributed-systems technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
- Production experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, Redis, and Cassandra.
- Experience shipping consumer-facing features at scale and taking products from 0 to 1.
- Preferred familiarity with full-stack or client-code development, server-driven UI patterns, and large-scale system migrations.
