Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and design for systems with significant scope and growth, compliance, performance, and reliability constraints.
- Determine approaches for ambiguous, cross-cutting technical problems and provide technical direction across teams.
- Partner with Product, UX, and engineering teams to shape problems and solutions early.
- Set engineering standards for code reviews, testing, incident reviews, and technical decision-making.
- Identify and address technical debt, architectural drift, and single points of failure.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers on technical judgment, scope, escalation, decision-making, and AI-tool usage.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering or development experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with object-oriented design, application development using Java/J2EE, design patterns, data structures and algorithms, multithreading, Spring MVC, SQL, and web services.
- Experience with Elasticsearch and data-streaming tools such as Kafka.
- Understanding of web services and SOA standards including REST, OAuth, and JSON.
- Experience with Agile development practices such as Scrum, XP, or pair programming.
- Ability to use open-source technologies and cloud services including Azure, Google Cloud/Google Computer, or Amazon Web Services.
- Hands-on professional experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar.
- Proficiency in Kubernetes, including cluster deployment, scaling, and management, is highly desirable.
