Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end resolution of critical enterprise customer ICMs and high-severity reliability escalations across S2D, WSFC, CSV, NTFS, and ReFS.
  • Investigate and remediate security vulnerabilities in the Windows storage stack, including privilege escalation, information disclosure, and denial-of-service issues.
  • Design and implement reliability and correctness fixes in StorPort, NVMe, iSCSI, SMB Direct/RDMA, and file-system filter drivers.
  • Diagnose and fix Storage Spaces Direct rebuild, rebalance, cache-tier, fragmentation, fault-domain, and Storage Bus Layer issues.
  • Maintain Windows Server Failover Clustering and Cluster Shared Volumes, including quorum, ownership, validation, and arbitration issues.
  • Fix Volume Shadow Copy Service and Windows Backup provider/requester, timeout, and metadata-consistency issues.
  • Develop diagnostic tooling and automated regression suites using kernel debugger extensions, ETW instrumentation, and Storage Spaces health-model validation.
  • Collaborate with MSRC on coordinated disclosure and patch delivery for storage-related CVEs, and participate in threat modeling and security reviews.
  • Provide expert guidance to enterprise customers and Partner Technical Advisors during active outages.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and WSD hiring loops.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise in C and C++ for Windows kernel-mode development.
  • Hands-on experience with StorPort miniport drivers, storage filter drivers, or file-system minifilter drivers, including IRP flow, completion routines, and cancel-safe queue management.
  • Strong Windows kernel fundamentals and experience with crash-dump analysis and live kernel debugging using WinDbg.
  • Knowledge of NTFS on-disk structures, including MFT records, attributes, the USN journal, and the NTFS log file.
  • Familiarity with ReFS metadata, integrity streams, block cloning, and crash-recovery differences from NTFS.
  • Experience debugging file-system corruption, minifilter architecture, WSFC, CSV, Storage Spaces Direct, and clustered storage connectivity.
  • Understanding of SMB Direct/RDMA, iSCSI multipath, NVMe-oF, Fibre Channel HBA integration, and StorPort.
  • Experience handling high-urgency customer escalations and interpreting Storage Spaces diagnostics, cluster logs, and ETW traces.
  • Familiarity with ProcMon, xperf, and WPA for storage and I/O diagnostics.
  • Preferred: Azure Stack HCI, NVMe specification internals, SMBv3, Windows Data Deduplication, compression, BitLocker integration, and published storage-security work.
  • Preferred: MS or BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
