Responsibilities

  • Set multi-year technical strategy and architecture for workload management, performance, and infrastructure efficiency across shared Agent 365 Foundation services.
  • Design, build, and operate distributed systems for admission control, resource governance, scheduling, load balancing, throttling, capacity allocation, autoscaling, and graceful degradation.
  • Develop algorithms and feedback systems that improve utilization and fairness while protecting latency, availability, tenant isolation, and service-level objectives.
  • Build performance-engineering capabilities covering benchmarks, profiling, tracing, telemetry, anomaly detection, attribution, experimentation, and automated regression prevention.
  • Use telemetry and cost signals to prioritize engineering work and validate improvements through controlled rollouts, shadow-mode validation, fault injection, and production results.
  • Own cross-team technical decisions, resolve architectural conflicts, and create incrementally adoptable designs.
  • Operate services as a Designated Responsible Individual, define SLOs, participate in on-call, lead incident response, and drive root-cause repair.
  • Apply secure development, threat modeling, least privilege, credential hygiene, safe deployment, and supply-chain integrity practices.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices with evaluation, reliability, safety, and cost guardrails.
  • Raise engineering quality through architecture and code reviews, technical writing, mentoring, and collaboration with senior and principal engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: master’s degree and 12+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: 3+ years providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling, benchmarking, telemetry, capacity analysis, and complex systems debugging.
  • Experience shipping and operating reliable production systems, including live-site ownership, safe deployment, incident response, and post-incident improvement.
  • Experience with workload management or resource-control systems such as scheduling, admission control, quotas, throttling, load balancing, autoscaling, fairness, or overload protection.
  • Experience optimizing high-scale, multi-tenant cloud services and shared infrastructure, including capacity planning, cost attribution, and infrastructure efficiency.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed-systems and cloud-architecture patterns, including containers, Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service, Service Fabric, caching, messaging, consistency, and failure isolation.
  • Experience building performance, profiling, observability, or analytics platforms using production telemetry, distributed tracing, large-scale data pipelines, or Azure Data Explorer/Kusto.
  • Experience designing algorithms, control loops, or data-driven optimization systems and validating them in production.
  • Hands-on experience applying large language models, agents, or AI-native engineering practices to diagnostics, operations, optimization, test generation, or software development.
  • Strong technical communication, influence, mentoring, and cross-functional decision-making skills.
  • Ability to pass required Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other applicable security screenings.

Benefits

  • Typical U.S. base pay range is $165,600-$296,400 per year; San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area range is $220,800-$331,200 per year.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, and the position will remain open for at least five days.
