Responsibilities
- Aggregate data across SumUp systems to attribute merchant actions to acquisition channels and sales agents.
- Define data models, API contracts, schemas, and rules for automated commission workflows.
- Build the merchant Lifecycle Event Log and supporting services for attribution, recommendations, customer support, and sales use cases.
- Develop internal backoffices and APIs for commission monitoring, plan management, portfolio management, and dispute resolution.
- Establish integration patterns, testing, observability, and incident-response best practices for the squad.
- Use AI and agentic coding tools responsibly for scaffolding, testing, code exploration, and documentation while retaining accountability for shipped work.
- Mentor colleagues and translate ambiguous business needs into clear engineering work.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience in Go or willingness as a typed-language generalist to ramp up quickly.
- Experience designing APIs and distributed systems with clear contracts, versioning, and integration patterns.
- Fluency with relational and analytical databases including PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
- Experience building Kafka-based event-driven systems and understanding event sourcing and CDC patterns.
- Experience with auditable, high-trust systems such as fintech or payments.
- Experience building services from scratch in greenfield or early-stage teams.
- Experience with testing, observability, and incident-response practices.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership, adapt to changing priorities, communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, and make pragmatic engineering trade-offs.
- Demonstrated mentorship instincts and ability to raise the engineering bar.
