Responsibilities

  • Own the design and implementation of complex systems and services for new healthcare enterprise product initiatives.
  • Evolve proofs of concept into production-ready systems integrated with Axon’s platform, EHRs, healthcare enterprise systems, and hardware devices.
  • Design and deliver AI-powered capabilities, including speech/AI transcription pipelines and LLM-based features.
  • Collaborate with product managers and healthcare customers to clarify requirements, assess feasibility, and iterate on solutions.
  • Coordinate technical work across engineers and adjacent teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Conduct code and architecture reviews, including evaluation of AI-generated code, with attention to reliability, security, privacy, and maintainability.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risks involving scalability, operability, compliance-sensitive data, and long-term system evolution.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, pairing, feedback, and coaching on AI-first development practices.
  • Contribute to planning, estimation, project execution, and improvements to engineering processes and collaboration.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering complex cloud-based systems with high availability and performance requirements.
  • Strong system design skills across scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability tradeoffs.
  • Experience creating and evolving APIs, services, or components used by other engineers or systems.
  • Direct experience working with electronic health records and healthcare interoperability concepts such as FHIR, HL7, or SMART on FHIR.
  • Experience evaluating and integrating AI-assisted development tools into engineering workflows.
  • Experience operating in ambiguous problem spaces, providing technical leadership, leading technical projects, and coordinating across teams.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, design, and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Preferred experience with Epic, Oracle Health/Cerner, or MEDITECH.
  • Preferred experience shipping EHR-based products, working in HIPAA- or PHI-sensitive environments, building speech-to-text or LLM-powered features, integrating hardware devices, iterating with customers, and working across the full stack.
