Responsibilities
- Deploy and operate workloads on Kubernetes, including containers, Pods, Deployments, Services, Ingress, and basic storage.
- Use Argo CD or an equivalent tool in a GitOps workflow to reconcile desired state, troubleshoot synchronization and health issues, and propose changes through merge requests.
- Extend observability using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager.
- Triage alerts end-to-end, correlate incidents with recent changes, document findings, and escalate with evidence.
- Build dashboards and panels from existing metrics and add recording rules or queries with review when appropriate.
- Participate in platform upgrades following runbooks and change windows.
- Support migration of services from bare metal to Kubernetes under mentorship.
- Contribute to internal AI-assisted tooling while protecting secrets and customer data and improving safe tool-based agents.
Requirements
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Expected graduation by Summer 2028.
- Hands-on Linux fundamentals, including shell usage, processes, logs, permissions, and basic troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of DNS, TCP, HTTP/S, ports, load balancing, and Ingress concepts.
- Experience with Git branches, merge requests, and meaningful commit messages.
- Python automation and scripting experience and comfort reading YAML for Kubernetes and CI configurations.
- Interest in SRE and DevOps practices, reliability, least privilege, and documenting operational work.
- Preferred coursework or project experience with Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, CI/CD, Terraform, Ansible, or AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Preferred contributions to homelab or open-source projects.
- Preferred thoughtful use of AI coding assistants and interest in agent patterns such as tools, guardrails, and human review.
