Responsibilities
- Lead customers in applying Honeycomb and observability practices to technical and business goals.
- Design and advise on telemetry schemas, data modeling, sampling strategies, instrumentation, governance, and ownership standards.
- Build and ship production instrumentation, SLOs, and boards while owning outcomes from scoping through delivery.
- Coach and mentor engineering teams and leaders on observability, SRE concepts, and instrumentation best practices.
- Troubleshoot customer issues and create technical and sociotechnical solutions across organizational boundaries.
- Produce trainings, talks, blog posts, white papers, demos, and reference architectures.
- Hand over documentation, patterns, and enablement so customers can extend the work independently.
- Represent customer insights to Honeycomb Engineering and Product Management and stay current on observability technologies.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of OpenTelemetry projects, components, SDKs, and ecosystem.
- Strong understanding of telemetry data modeling, event schemas, cardinality, and long-term queryability.
- Ability to understand application architecture and flow sufficiently to instrument systems and advise others.
- Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure; Terraform, Kubernetes, or Helm; and CI/CD platforms such as CircleCI or GitHub Actions.
- Previous experience in software development or system operations, preferably with distributed systems at scale.
- Fluency in at least one of Ruby, Python, Go, JavaScript, Java, or .NET.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills for engineering teams and technical leadership.
- Ability to turn loosely defined goals into concrete deliverables and ship them.
- Bonus experience in Customer Success, Technical Account Management, Sales Engineering, Consulting, or distributed tracing.
