Responsibilities
- Research and analyze well-defined, lower-complexity Canadian tax issues under guidance and escalate more complex matters.
- Translate scoped tax requirements into functional tax logic using C#, C++, or Java, including through AI-agent-assisted code generation.
- Participate in compliance discussions with product owners, senior engineers, and tax analysts.
- Write reusable code, review AI-generated code, participate in code reviews, and validate functionality through automated and manual testing.
- Investigate well-defined defects using logs, metrics, traces, structured debugging, and AI-assisted hypothesis generation.
- Follow established technical requirements and best-practice documentation for tax content.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and estimation.
- Use AI productivity tools to support learning, code generation, and validation.
- Develop awareness of customer and tax impact through telemetry, usage data, and support signals.
- Seek feedback and build learning plans with senior engineers and tax analysts.
Requirements
- BS/MS in Computer Science and/or Tax plus equivalent experience, or recent graduate status.
- 1–2 years of software development experience in C#, C++, and/or Java, including foundational object-oriented design concepts through coursework, internships, or professional experience.
- 1–2 years of tax research, analysis, or tax preparation experience.
- Growing understanding of software engineering fundamentals and the software development lifecycle.
- Exposure to unit testing and willingness to learn Test-Driven Development practices.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants and productivity tools, including structuring prompts and context and validating generated code.
- Self-starter attitude, willingness to learn, and readiness to take ownership of well-defined tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Agile Development, Scrum, and/or programming methodologies is preferred.
