Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze well-defined, lower-complexity Canadian tax issues under guidance and escalate more complex matters.
  • Translate scoped tax requirements into functional tax logic using C#, C++, or Java, including through AI-agent-assisted code generation.
  • Participate in compliance discussions with product owners, senior engineers, and tax analysts.
  • Write reusable code, review AI-generated code, participate in code reviews, and validate functionality through automated and manual testing.
  • Investigate well-defined defects using logs, metrics, traces, structured debugging, and AI-assisted hypothesis generation.
  • Follow established technical requirements and best-practice documentation for tax content.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and estimation.
  • Use AI productivity tools to support learning, code generation, and validation.
  • Develop awareness of customer and tax impact through telemetry, usage data, and support signals.
  • Seek feedback and build learning plans with senior engineers and tax analysts.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science and/or Tax plus equivalent experience, or recent graduate status.
  • 1–2 years of software development experience in C#, C++, and/or Java, including foundational object-oriented design concepts through coursework, internships, or professional experience.
  • 1–2 years of tax research, analysis, or tax preparation experience.
  • Growing understanding of software engineering fundamentals and the software development lifecycle.
  • Exposure to unit testing and willingness to learn Test-Driven Development practices.
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants and productivity tools, including structuring prompts and context and validating generated code.
  • Self-starter attitude, willingness to learn, and readiness to take ownership of well-defined tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Agile Development, Scrum, and/or programming methodologies is preferred.
