Data Engineer II
TripAdvisorResponsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain robust terabyte-scale ETL/ELT pipelines across Snowflake, BigQuery, Hive, and other platforms.
- Develop reusable data models and curated datasets for analytics, data science, CRM, machine learning, and other data consumers.
- Own the full data-pipeline lifecycle, including SLAs, performance measurement, monitoring, anomaly detection, validation, documentation, and governance.
- Write production Java and Python for data ingestion, event processing, REST services, and internal tooling.
- Build and maintain streaming and batch processing systems using Flink, Spark, and Kafka.
- Design, implement, test, maintain, and release scalable software and data-platform solutions.
- Operate and improve AWS cloud infrastructure and related tooling.
- Lead design and code reviews and collaborate with Product, Design, Analytics, and Data Science teams.
Requirements
- 4–5+ years of commercial data engineering or general software development experience.
- Strong hands-on production experience with Java and Python.
- Experience designing and implementing complex ETL/ELT processes from concept through production.
- Proficiency in SQL and data exploration across large, complex datasets.
- Experience with Hadoop, Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, and terabyte-scale or larger datasets.
- Strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
- Professional experience building REST services and working with event queue systems.
- Familiarity with Linux and AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with systems performance, tuning, scalability, and high-volume or low-latency systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with Flink, Spark Streaming, Apache Airflow, GraphQL, React, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, Postgres, Gradle, BERT, data governance, machine learning, data science, or GenAI.
- Strong analytical, communication, organizational, problem-solving, collaboration, and ownership skills.
