Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and deploy Roku’s next-generation cloud platform and service mesh.
  • Build and own compute solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Envoy, Terraform, and scripting.
  • Research and implement technologies that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Integrate security best practices into infrastructure design and automation.
  • Build tooling to visualize inefficiencies and optimize costs across shared-tenancy clusters, network traffic, cross-cluster communication, and cost attribution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to migrate workloads to Kubernetes and Istio using open-source observability tools.
  • Work with the Observability team to scale platform monitoring and logging.
  • Apply SRE principles to maintain high availability and streamline onboarding workflows.
  • Mentor team members and help define infrastructure and automation best practices.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience architecting and managing large-scale cloud systems handling significant traffic or data, with AWS preferred and GCP or Azure as a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and service mesh technologies, including platforms such as EKS, GKE, or AKS.
  • Proficiency in Go or another programming language and Python or another scripting language.
  • Experience designing infrastructure, building automation tools, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and following modern deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Thanos, Loki, and Grafana.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience; 8+ years of experience is preferred.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve processes and reduce operational toil is a plus.
  • Fluency with agentic engineering tools and workflows, including Claude Code, Cursor, MCP servers, custom skills, or agent frameworks, with demonstrated shipped work.
