Base Salary
$192k - $243k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy ML infrastructure for training and serving models in Instacart’s advertising marketplace.
- Optimize training and serving systems for throughput, cost, latency, stability, availability, and accelerator utilization.
- Build low-latency real-time feature processing pipelines that compute, join, and serve fresh features on ad-request paths.
- Develop online sequence feature stores, streaming update paths, long-context serving, and training pipelines for a real-time sequential foundation model.
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers to align product, model, and infrastructure requirements.
- Mentor engineers, set technical direction, conduct code reviews, and promote technical excellence.
Requirements
- A master’s or PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, operations research, or equivalent self-study and experience.
- At least 3 years of industry experience building ML infrastructure or applying machine learning to real-world problems with large datasets.
- Deep expertise building, scaling, and managing production ML infrastructure for training and/or serving, including modern ML systems and MLOps.
- Strong software engineering and programming skills, including Python or Go, plus experience with SQL, Spark, Pandas, Torch, TensorFlow, and XGBoost.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Preferred: 5+ years of industry experience tech leading teams building ML infrastructure or solving large-scale machine learning problems.
- Preferred: experience with training and serving efficiency, real-time feature processing, streaming systems, online feature stores, sequential modeling, transformer architectures, recommendation systems, foundation models, digital advertising, LLM integrations, prompt engineering, or productivity tooling.
