Base Salary
$243k - $500k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical vision for indexing and retrieval infrastructure across Core, Ads, and Shopping.
- Lead modernization of Pinterest’s indexing architecture, including unified real-time and incremental retrieval systems.
- Partner with engineering, product, ML, and infrastructure leaders to deliver shared platform capabilities.
- Guide system design, architecture reviews, and complex platform changes spanning ingestion, indexing, retrieval, and quality evaluation.
- Build common metrics, tuning surfaces, and debugging workflows for relevance, safety, engagement, revenue, and infrastructure-cost tradeoffs.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders and promote strong engineering judgment and operational excellence.
- Use and critically validate AI-assisted analysis, prototyping, documentation, and technical decision-making.
Requirements
- Deep expertise building and evolving large-scale indexing, search, recommendation, or ads retrieval systems, including real-time and incremental architectures.
- Strong technical leadership experience across multiple teams or organizations, including stakeholder alignment and complex platform decisions.
- Experience leading large modernization efforts such as architectural convergence, legacy migrations, shared-platform rollouts, or new infrastructure capabilities.
- Exceptional systems thinking and ability to connect platform decisions to product quality, ML needs, operational health, and business outcomes.
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated experience using AI in engineering workflows and validating AI-assisted work through testing, source-checking, peer review, and engineering judgment.
- High integrity, ownership, and care when handling sensitive data and production-critical systems.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
