Responsibilities
- Design AWS topologies and custom cloud solutions for business, scientific, and high-performance computing applications.
- Assist development teams with migrating and refactoring applications from on-premises infrastructure to AWS.
- Train product teams to configure environments, build and deploy applications, and automate operational processes using AWS technologies.
- Develop and enhance platform capabilities involving infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containerized workloads, serverless workloads, and high-performance computing.
- Implement and manage containerization, orchestration, deployment, configuration management, and cloud automation solutions.
- Collaborate with product owners, researchers, software developers, and other cloud engineers to identify technical requirements and integration challenges.
- Provide guidance on secure and optimal use of cloud technologies and act as an AWS Cloud subject-matter expert.
- Present technical ideas, cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation and participate in team stand-up meetings.
Requirements
- Technical training, certifications, and/or a degree plus 5+ years of related experience.
- At least 3 years of experience with AWS and commonly used AWS services.
- Hands-on experience writing Terraform or CloudFormation templates and modules from scratch and using configuration management frameworks.
- Experience containerizing software applications and using container orchestration and deployment platforms such as AWS ECS and AWS EKS.
- Experience implementing and managing CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, or similar tools.
- Ability to present ideas to technical and non-technical users and write comprehensive technical documentation.
- Ability to obtain a NIH Public Trust clearance.
- Preferred experience includes AWS security services, AWS Systems Manager, Ansible, Jenkins, application refactoring, microservice technologies, cloud-native applications, and consulting with scientists, researchers, and developers on AWS solutions.
- Experience in a Federal Scientific Health Research environment and proximity to Rockville, Maryland are preferred.
