Base Salary
$170k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and design for complex projects and systems within the Datastore.
- Design and scale PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, dataset snapshot pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
- Translate product, scientific, clinical, and partner requirements into integrations, services, and data-platform solutions.
- Write and tune SQL while reasoning about schema design, indexes, query plans, data integrity, and maintainability.
- Debug and profile ambiguous problems across system boundaries and improve structure, tooling, and test coverage.
- Draft RFCs, lead technical discovery and design phases, and align stakeholders on implementation decisions.
- Plan personal and team work while balancing delivery speed, generalizability, and technical debt.
- Mentor engineers, provide actionable feedback, and serve as a technical lead or engineering-practice coordinator when needed.
- Improve the Datastore’s operational robustness and usability through documentation, tools, and dashboards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
- Deep proficiency in at least one of data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
- Strong production SQL and PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing, query tuning, and query-plan analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka or equivalent event-processing technologies such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
- Proficiency in Julia or Python; Julia experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript or JavaScript with Node.js.
- Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments, with familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform and/or Helm.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and improving team practices, tooling, test coverage, or documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience working across disciplines in remote or asynchronous environments.
- Experience with or interest in LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools in production, including appropriate guardrails.
- Strong fundamentals, curiosity, collaborative judgment, and interest in data infrastructure for health are valued even when candidates do not meet every listed qualification.
