Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the target architecture and technical strategy for the global Deposits platform.
- Guide platform evolution and legacy-system migrations while balancing safety, business priorities, regulatory requirements, and delivery sustainability.
- Set technical standards for distributed transaction processing, accounting integrity, yield and tax calculations, reliability, observability, and operational recovery.
- Lead high-impact technical decisions across services and markets and communicate trade-offs clearly.
- Represent Deposits in cross-team alignment with Product, platform owners, and senior stakeholders.
- Create RFCs, design documents, migration plans, decision records, and executable milestones.
- Multiply team effectiveness through mentoring, architecture reviews, code reviews, and reusable engineering standards.
- Remain hands-on and lead by example on critical or complex platform components.
Requirements
- Staff-level experience leading architecture and technical strategy for large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong backend engineering experience with asynchronous workflows, eventual consistency, concurrency, high-throughput processing, performance, and failure recovery.
- Ability to evolve complex systems incrementally and safely while designing for the long term.
- Strong judgment in high-impact technical decisions and ability to communicate options, criteria, and trade-offs.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and aligning teams with differing priorities or constraints.
- Experience mentoring engineers, raising technical standards, and enabling independent execution.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, complex domain rules, and differing regulatory or product requirements across markets.
- Strong English communication skills for a global, cross-functional environment.
- Ability to learn complex domains and reason about business-critical systems.
- Experience in financial services, banking, payments, or accounting platforms is preferred but not required.
- Experience with Clojure, Datomic, DynamoDB, Redis, Kafka, or comparable technologies is preferred.
- Experience designing platforms for multiple countries, products, and regulatory environments is preferred.
