Responsibilities
- Build and operate Java 17+ microservices in production using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Kafka, and distributed-system patterns.
- Develop and support cloud-native workloads on Kubernetes and AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking, service mesh, secrets, IAM, and cost awareness.
- Implement transactional data patterns such as sagas and the outbox pattern, along with caching, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency.
- Apply unit, contract, integration, end-to-end, performance, and pipeline automation testing practices.
- Implement observability with OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK, and debug using traces and high-cardinality logs.
- Implement and maintain API and application security using OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, TLS, mTLS, certificate rotation, and vulnerability remediation.
- Review architectural and vendor deliverables, articulate gaps, and guide remediation.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of professional software development experience.
- 5+ years building Java microservices in production.
- Deep expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Gradle or Maven, and REST/JSON.
- Strong Kafka experience, including streams, schema registries, Avro or Protobuf, consumer groups, partitioning, and rebalancing.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, including consistency, CAP, retries, idempotency, back-pressure, eventual consistency, and caching.
- Proven production experience with Kubernetes and AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience with testing tools and approaches including Pact, AssertJ JSON, Testcontainers, Gatling, and JMH.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK.
- Experience with OAuth2/OIDC/JWT, TLS, mTLS, certificate rotation, vulnerability remediation, and familiarity with SAST/DAST.
- Experience with Vert.x and gRPC.
- Preferred knowledge of CQRS, Event Sourcing, Temporal, Cadence, Debezium, CDC, platform engineering, internal developer platforms, or Backstage.
- Preferred experience with Postgres, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, Cosmos, DocumentDB, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
