Responsibilities
- Share architectural ownership of SIXT’s global payment platform across payment providers, invoicing, dunning, reconciliation, and ledger systems.
- Design cross-channel payment flows covering authorization, capture, refunds, disputes, chargebacks, and reconciliation.
- Lead architectural work for franchise migrations, legacy-core retirement, and increasingly complex invoice flows.
- Use AI tooling to investigate payment issues and stress-test integration and architecture decisions.
- Write RFCs and reference implementations, prototype designs, and review load-bearing production code.
- Drive architectural alignment across engineering teams through technical influence and communicate trade-offs to engineers and leadership.
- Mentor staff engineers and engineering managers on complex architecture decisions.
Requirements
- Several years of experience designing and owning payment or financial-transaction architectures end to end.
- Strong understanding of payment flows, including authorization, capture, refunds, chargebacks, and reconciliation.
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS, PSD2, and related regulatory frameworks.
- Strong JVM engineering skills and experience with event-driven systems handling financial transactions exactly once.
- Practical expertise in idempotency, retries, observability, and designing across modern and legacy systems.
- Ability to make architecture decisions amid competing system constraints and lead through influence rather than formal authority.
- Comfort using AI tools in day-to-day design work while independently verifying their output.
- Experience mentoring engineers into architectural ownership is preferred.
