Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for the internal AI platform.
- Maintain platform components for prompt and workflow management, evaluation, tracing, and cost, usage, and performance monitoring.
- Build vector database and retrieval infrastructure for search and AI-powered discovery.
- Develop RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and orchestration layers connecting content, data, LLM calls, retrieval, and business logic.
- Develop infrastructure for AI application metadata, observability, and access controls.
- Implement data pipelines and storage solutions for AI systems.
- Write maintainable, well-tested backend code primarily in Python or Go.
- Ensure code quality, security, system observability, and service reliability.
- Collaborate with editorial, product, ML, data, and newsroom stakeholders to translate requirements into platform capabilities.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, design discussions, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- At least two years of software engineering experience focused on backend development.
- At least two years of experience with backend programming languages such as Python or Go.
- Experience building and operating APIs and services in production.
- Exposure to applications using large language models or familiarity with orchestration and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Preferred experience includes MLOps, model and prompt evaluation, tracing, monitoring, vector databases, embedding models, information retrieval, search systems, RAG systems, agentic AI workflows, and prompt management.
- Preferred familiarity includes Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, GCP, AWS, Kafka, Pub/Sub, LLM orchestration frameworks, agentic frameworks, and GraphQL.
- Preferred experience designing distributed systems at scale.
