Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services for Twilio Flex’s high-scale TaskRouter system.
  • Own the technical direction and architectural vision for business-critical backend services running on AWS.
  • Lead large distributed systems changes involving scalability, data architecture, fault isolation, and migration strategy.
  • Improve availability and resilience for Tier 0 systems while balancing reliability, cost, and delivery speed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, platform, and product teams to align designs and resolve shared dependencies.
  • Raise engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship of senior and mid-level engineers.
  • Drive operational excellence through observability, gamedays, incident response, and permanent remediation of recurring issues.
  • Influence roadmap priorities and represent the team’s technical position across the organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience writing production-grade backend code in a modern programming language such as Java, Golang, Python, Scala, or similar.
  • Experience building fault-tolerant distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and database designs.
  • Experience with AWS cloud-based infrastructure and high-scale, low-latency APIs.
  • Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or DynamoDB.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for complex distributed applications.
  • Experience shipping services following the CI/CD development paradigm.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, ambiguity tolerance, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka or Pulsar is desired.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes is desired.
  • Knowledge of Linux systems, networking concepts, multi-tenant SaaS platforms, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog is desired.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams is desired.
