Data Platform Engineer officer
State StreetResponsibilities
- Design and build backend services, shared libraries, ingestion frameworks, metadata-driven pipelines, and API or data-consumption integrations.
- Develop reusable platform components using open table formats, data catalogs, and query engines.
- Implement role-based access control, authentication, enterprise entitlement integrations, and other platform security controls.
- Build observability, logging, metrics, traces, alerting, and operational dashboards to support service-level agreements.
- Collaborate with architects and engineering teams on scalable designs, open standards, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and production readiness.
- Ensure platform services meet enterprise security and compliance requirements and participate in on-call support, major incident management, and production troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Python and Java; Rust experience is a bonus.
- Strong Spark programming skills with hands-on optimization and debugging experience.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Databricks as data platforms.
- Strong understanding of SQL optimization, query execution, large-scale analytics, and distributed or hyperscale computing.
- Experience with production-grade services in cloud environments; AWS, GCP, and/or Azure experience is preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with Apache Iceberg, data catalogs such as Polaris, Horizon, or Unity Catalog, metadata management, streaming pipelines, and Kafka is preferred.
- Understanding of data modeling and data product design.
- Experience with containers and Kubernetes.
- Financial or data platform experience is preferred but not required.
