Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain secure, reliable integrations between distributed platforms and third-party systems.
- Modernize legacy integrations into Java-based microservices in distributed architectures.
- Build integrations across edge, data center, and AWS deployment models.
- Engineer for resilience, observability, auditability, latency, and intermittent or low-bandwidth networks.
- Integrate identity, verification, traveler-data, biometric, document-capture, access-control, and gate systems.
- Define interface contracts, schemas, versioning, retry and idempotency behavior, and certification and testing approaches.
- Troubleshoot issues across application, data, messaging, and network layers.
- Collaborate with software, cloud, network, QA, field engineering, analytics and observability, and security teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering or systems integration.
- Strong hands-on experience building Java-based distributed services.
- Production experience with API integration and event-driven messaging.
- Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, JMS, AMQP, or similar messaging platforms.
- Experience with MongoDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or comparable data platforms.
- Production AWS deployment and operations experience.
- Experience designing and supporting integrations in high-availability, mission-critical, or regulated environments.
- Understanding of authentication and authorization, certificate-based security, schema evolution, error handling, retries, observability, and supportability.
- Experience modernizing legacy or monolithic integrations into service-oriented or microservices architectures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with direct ownership of delivery outcomes.
- An active Top Secret SCI security clearance is required.
- Preferred experience with HashiCorp tooling such as Consul, Nomad, and Vault, AWS-native services, infrastructure automation, ELK, Grafana, Kibana, Logstash, observability stacks, biometric and field peripherals, and degraded or low-bandwidth environments.
