
Staff Software Engineer - OCR / Text Extraction
NetDocumentsResponsibilities
- Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for scalable, secure, and performant document extraction and transformation systems on AWS.
- Design and implement event-driven architectures, data pipelines, scalable APIs, and production-grade full-stack applications.
- Build and optimize OCR, text extraction, document processing, semantic search, and AI-service integrations.
- Own initiatives from concept through production, addressing scalability, performance, reliability, technical debt, security, and compliance.
- Implement observability with logging, metrics, tracing, and telemetry, and monitor systems for performance bottlenecks.
- Create technical documentation, including architectural diagrams and design decisions.
- Partner with product management, Platform Services, Ops, and other engineering teams on technical solutions and shared infrastructure.
- Mentor engineers, lead code reviews and design discussions, and drive knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Research and validate emerging technologies through proofs of concept aligned with product strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade applications at scale on cloud platforms.
- At least 5 years of technical leadership and development experience using OCR technologies.
- Expert proficiency in C#/.NET, OCR technologies such as Tesseract or Apryse, event-driven microservice-based products, cloud platforms preferably AWS, and Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
- Expert proficiency in observability practices including logging, metrics, tracing, and telemetry, preferably with Datadog.
- Proven experience building scalable applications that remain in production.
- Deep experience with OCR and text extraction, document management or enterprise content management, event-driven architectures, and high-performance content extraction products.
- Experience ingesting millions of documents per hour into a SaaS document management platform.
- Legal-industry expertise or experience with B2B SaaS in regulated industries is preferred.
- Experience integrating AI services and emerging technologies into production systems is preferred.
