Base Salary
$150k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for complex initiatives spanning device APIs, event pipelines, device lifecycle management, transport infrastructure, and partner-facing platform capabilities.
- Lead architectural design and define shared API contracts, event schemas, platform patterns, frameworks, libraries, and reusable components.
- Drive large multi-engineer initiatives end-to-end from technical design through implementation, validation, and production readiness.
- Provide technical mentorship through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and coaching on architectural thinking and engineering craft.
- Influence cross-team technical standards, modernization guidance, architecture decisions, and platform planning forums.
- Establish production readiness, observability, reliability, monitoring, SLA, support, incident response, and postmortem practices.
- Use and promote AI-assisted development tools while validating generated output for correctness, security, edge cases, and maintainability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
- Experience leading large, multi-engineer technical initiatives from architecture through delivery with substantial autonomy.
- Demonstrated success creating reusable platform patterns, shared libraries, or integration frameworks adopted by other engineers.
- Strong architectural judgment regarding service boundaries, domain ownership, failure modes, versioning, and maintainability.
- Deep backend platform engineering experience with RESTful or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and shared platform design.
- Experience modernizing tightly coupled systems toward domain-aligned, independently deployable services.
- Ability to anticipate medium-term technical risks and influence experienced engineers across teams.
- Practical familiarity with AI-assisted development for implementation, debugging, and documentation while maintaining validation and architectural discipline.
- Preferred qualifications include .NET/C#, SQL Server, Kafka or similar event streaming infrastructure, partner-facing APIs, device or IoT platforms, microservice architecture, observability, incident management, production operations, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and the Model Context Protocol.
