Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java backend services for Rakuten’s logistics platform.
- Design and operate reliable, highly available distributed and event-driven systems.
- Improve system performance, scalability, capacity, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and architectural decision-making.
- Collaborate with platform and framework teams to improve developer productivity.
- Monitor production systems, contribute to incident response, and drive continuous improvement.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested production code and contribute to engineering best practices.
Requirements
- More than 6 years of professional Java development experience.
- Deep expertise in Java, Micronaut, and modern backend development.
- Production experience designing and delivering RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services using Protocol Buffers.
- Experience designing, building, and operating microservice architectures at scale.
- Production experience with Kafka event-driven systems, including partitioning, consumer groups, and failure handling.
- Deep experience building and operating scalable, highly available distributed systems and diagnosing production failures.
- Hands-on experience with reactive programming such as Reactor or RxJava.
- Experience deploying, scaling, and operating services on Kubernetes and developing cloud-native applications on Kubernetes or private cloud platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, capacity planning, and performance tuning at scale.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns, including experience leading technical design reviews.
- Deep experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or Couchbase, including query optimization, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Redis for caching and session management.
- Desired qualifications include Agile/Scrum experience, observability tooling such as Elastic/Kibana, Prometheus, or Grafana, large-scale mission-critical backend experience, globally distributed engineering experience, and familiarity with AI-powered developer tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills and proficient English.
