Base Salary
$150k - $190k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for complex initiatives across device APIs, event pipelines, device lifecycle management, transport infrastructure, and partner-facing platform capabilities.
- Lead architecture and delivery of large, cross-team platform initiatives from design through implementation, validation, and production readiness.
- Define shared platform patterns, API contracts, event schemas, frameworks, libraries, and integration approaches adopted by multiple engineering teams.
- Influence department-wide technical standards through tech councils, working groups, design reviews, and architectural planning.
- Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, and guidance on technical judgment.
- Drive cross-team alignment, dependency resolution, modernization, and coherent evolution of shared systems.
- Establish observability, reliability, monitoring, SLA, incident response, postmortem, and support practices for platform services.
- Use and promote AI-assisted development workflows while maintaining rigorous validation, security review, and architectural discipline.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
- Experience leading large, multi-engineer technical initiatives from architecture through delivery with substantial autonomy.
- Experience creating reusable platform patterns, shared libraries, or integration frameworks adopted by other engineers.
- Strong architectural judgment involving service boundaries, domain ownership, failure modes, versioning, and maintainability.
- Deep backend platform experience with RESTful or gRPC APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and shared platform design.
- Experience modernizing tightly coupled systems toward domain-aligned and independently deployable services.
- Ability to anticipate medium-term technical problems and influence experienced engineers across teams.
- Credibility collaborating with architects and engineering managers on complex cross-team initiatives.
- Positive buy-in and practical familiarity with AI-assisted development for implementation, debugging, documentation, and validation.
- Preferred: strong .NET/C# and SQL Server experience.
- Preferred: experience with partner-facing APIs, external integration platforms, Kafka or similar event streaming infrastructure, device or IoT systems, microservices modernization, observability, incident management, and production operations.
- Preferred: experience with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Model Context Protocol, architecture decision records, technical standards, or engineering working groups.
