Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and operate highly available, scalable, and secure Confluent Kafka platforms across production environments.
- Manage cloud-native workloads on Amazon EKS, including cluster configuration, deployment, upgrades, scaling, and operational support.
- Apply Kubernetes primitives and networking patterns to support stateful and distributed platforms.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
- Design and operate multi-region active-active or active-passive architectures for resilience and disaster recovery.
- Develop automation and operational tooling using Python, Bash, or Go.
- Build and operate event-driven architectures and Kafka Streams applications for real-time business events and data enrichment.
- Contribute directly to production-grade codebases, peer reviews, secure CI/CD pipelines, and automated quality gates.
- Implement testing practices including contract, unit, integration, performance, load, and mutation testing.
- Own end-to-end delivery, platform stability, operational resilience, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, security, architecture, and other cross-functional teams using Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
Requirements
- In-depth hands-on experience with the Confluent Kafka ecosystem, including brokers, topics, partitions, producers, consumers, Schema Registry, connectors, ksqlDB, REST Proxy, and operational best practices.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS, including StatefulSets, operators, persistent volumes, services, ingress, networking, orchestration, and scaling.
- Strong understanding of AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, EKS, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
- Experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Docker, Amazon ECR, multi-region architectures, and container security.
- Experience developing automation and operational tooling with Python, Bash, or Go.
- Knowledge of event ordering, partitioning, replay, schema evolution, and exactly-once or at-least-once processing semantics.
- Strong coding capability with emphasis on clean code, testability, performance, maintainability, and production ownership.
- Experience with GitLab, DevSecOps pipelines, secure CI/CD, Docker Desktop, IntelliJ IDEA or an equivalent enterprise IDE, and secure source control practices.
- Hands-on experience with PACT contract testing, JUnit unit testing, integration testing, JMeter performance and load testing, and mutation testing.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery, Jira, distributed-system troubleshooting, architecture documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Practical adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, GitLab Duo, Copilot, or equivalent, while retaining engineering judgment and accountability.
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical skills, ownership, self-drive, and familiarity with cloud-native engineering practices.
