Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Flink-based streaming pipelines and real-time processing systems at production scale.
- Own data quality and observability infrastructure, including schema contracts, freshness monitoring, ownership registries, and alerting systems.
- Build and evolve knowledge-base tooling for agents and engineers.
- Design reliable data integrity and failure-recovery systems for a trustworthy platform.
- Collaborate on Forter’s company-wide Agentic Data Foundation initiative and validate proof-of-concept systems.
- Set technical direction and maintain architecture standards with the Engineering Manager and other Staff Engineers.
Requirements
- 8+ years of production backend or data infrastructure experience, including at least 2 years at Staff Engineer or equivalent level.
- Deep production-scale experience with stream processing systems such as Flink, Kafka, or equivalent technologies, including failure modes, recovery, and operational burden.
- Strong distributed systems knowledge with a focus on correctness and reliability.
- Experience building or owning data quality or observability infrastructure.
- Ability to explain complex systems, facilitate collaborative solutions, and work effectively in a team.
- Internal product mindset focused on serving internal teams and making deliberate build-versus-buy decisions.
- Preferred: experience with data contracts, schema registries, or data governance tooling.
- Preferred: experience with Scala, Java, Kotlin, and big-data databases such as Aerospike or Elasticsearch.
- Preferred: experience with agentic or LLM-adjacent infrastructure and data quality for agents.
- Preferred: experience serving as a technical anchor on a small, high-scope team.
