Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and scale customer-facing backend products and services for the Journey Data team.
- Develop backend systems using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design NoSQL data models and access patterns for high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
- Implement resilient distributed microservice architectures using patterns such as circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, and retries.
- Build event-driven services and REST APIs deployed on AWS cloud technologies.
- Own services end-to-end from technical design through production observability.
- Optimize performance and troubleshoot production systems at scale.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical leadership.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, and other teams to deliver shared outcomes.
- Participate in infrastructure-as-code ownership, on-call rotations, and incident response as applicable.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience in software engineering.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency with Java and Spring Boot for backend systems.
- Advanced proficiency with unit, integration, and user-acceptance testing.
- Experience with NoSQL database design, access patterns, and data modeling.
- Experience with resiliency patterns, distributed microservices, event-driven architecture, REST APIs, and AWS.
- Experience with CI/CD processes and technologies.
- Experience designing and owning services through production deployment and observability.
- Experience with performance optimization and production troubleshooting at scale.
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
- Proven leadership delivering complex software projects from concept through production.
- Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Desirable experience with AWS services including EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, IAM, and CloudFormation.
- Desirable experience with Jenkins, Terraform, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Sumo Logic, Kafka, Avro, Resilience4j, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Desirable experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, and Groovy.
- Experience using AI tooling as a copilot for production-ready code is desirable.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, multi-environment deployments, on-call rotations, and incident response is desirable.
